Forgiveness is a Gift We Give Ourselves!
Lewis B. Smedes once said “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” Or Anne Lamott, “not forgiving is like drinking rat poison and then waiting for the rat to die.”
Most of us carry around anger, resentment, jealousy or some other negative emotion directed to others. Some of these emotions have been around for years or have been directed to someone no longer in your life. Unless dealt with, these negative emotions will eventually begin to affect the quality of your life and that of those around you. Love, Compassion and the other higher vibrational emotions are repressed by these negative emotions.
Catherine Ponder was quoted saying “When we hold resentment toward another, we are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel." Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and become free.” Forgiveness is the act of unchaining yourself from thoughts and feelings that bind you to an offense, imagined or real, committed against you. It is a commitment to a process of growth and change. The first step is to recognize the value of forgiveness and the positive impact it can have in our lives. When we forgive, we release the control and power of the offending person AND it stops us from playing the victim. We no longer define our lives by how we have been hurt – instead we can define ourselves by how we have grown.
Cherie Carter Scott stated “Anger makes you small, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were."
Life either expands or contracts in direct proportion to your courage to forgive. Forgiveness is the most important single process that brings peace and harmony to our life. Forgiveness has 2 parts. The smaller part – is to release others, while the greater part is to release yourself from allowing yourself to be bound to negative emotions.
Forgiveness is not only a gift we give to others but more importantly it is gift we give to ourselves.
In 2012, I was blindsided by something that made my brain fall to the floor and shatter into tiny little pieces. I was totally stunned and in shock. It happened to someone I love and hold very near and dear to my heart. The offender was someone I had loved deeply for over 40 years. The hurt and the feelings of betrayal quickly turned to RAGE! I have never in my life felt the intensity of this horrendous emotion as I did at that moment. It was so all consuming that I was physically ill. My guides were telling me I had to let ALL of these intense black emotions go or it was going to destroy me physically, mentally and emotionally! To be honest I was in such a dark place at that time I just wasn't willing to listen to my beloved Angels and Guides (just to name a few) who have NEVER steered me wrong! My guides NEVER gave up on me - They reminded me there was a reason why this happened and I was to allow the lessons that needed to be learned by many not just myself. I knew I wasn't strong enough do it alone so I went to God and ask him to take this feeling of hate from me - I asked him to do with it as he wills and to replace the void that was left with his love and light!
It did not magically disappear but each day my heart was opening up a little bit at a time. As soon as I actually let go, I felt softer, lighter, and I instantly saw God's light at the end of this long, scary tunnel and knew all would be well! I can honestly say that by truly letting go, today, I wish this person no harm.
Forgiving does not mean that you accept, like, approve or find their actions of what they did tolerable– it means loving yourself enough to let go, allowing the highest power that is to deal with the situation to the highest and best for all involved.
My definition of Forgiveness.. "It is for God - Give to God!"

FUNNY SHORT STORY
A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to, and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family doctor to discuss the problem.
The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.
Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response."
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den. He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens." Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?" No response. So, the husband moves closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Still no response.
Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again he gets no response.
He walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. "Honey, what's for dinner?"
Again, there is no response. So, he walks right up behind her. "Honey, what's for dinner?"
"Clyde, for the fifth time... CHICKEN!"
